The culture war is in full swing, and Democrats are losing. That’s the assessment of commentator and author Patrick J. Deneen, who says the Left has ceded the fight for hearts and minds to the Right. Deneen is the author of Why Liberalism Failed.

The culture war is a battle for the hearts and minds of Americans. It’s a fight over our country’s identity and what it stands for. The Left and the Right are locked in a struggle for the soul of America.
And, according to Patrick J. Deneen, the Left is losing. Deneen is a professor of political science at the University of Notre Dame and the author of Why Liberalism Failed. He says the Left has ceded the fight for hearts and minds to the Right.
Deneen says the Left lost the culture war because it abandoned traditional values and embraced a new set of values that are antithetical to those of the American people. The Left embraced individualism, hedonism, and materialism. These values are at odds with the traditional values of family, community, and faith that have long been a part of American life.
The Left also lost the culture war because it failed to make a compelling case for its values. The Right has been much better at articulating its vision for America and winning over the American people.
Deneen says the Left needs to make a case for its values that is rooted in the best of American traditions. It needs to reclaim the language of family, community, and faith. And it needs to offer a vision for America that is compelling and attractive to the American people.
