Eshraq.me – 8 Psychological Causes of Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to get or keep an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual intercourse. It is a common problem, affecting up to one in five men over the age of 40.

There are many physical causes of ED, including:

  • heart disease
  • high blood pressure
  • high cholesterol
  • diabetes
  • obesity
  • smoking
  • alcoholism
  • drug abuse

However, ED can also be caused by psychological problems, such as:

1. Stress

Stressful life events, such as the death of a loved one, can lead to ED. But so can everyday stressors, such as work deadlines or family conflict.

2. Anxiety

Anxiety about sexual performance can lead to or worsen ED.

3. Depression

Depression is a common psychological cause of ED. Depression can lead to ED either directly or indirectly.

4. Relationship problems

Problems with your partner can lead to ED. If you’re having trouble communicating with your partner or you’re not happy with the relationship, it can be difficult to get or keep an erection.

5. Performance anxiety

Anxiety about sexual performance can lead to or worsen ED.

6. Guilt

Guilt can lead to ED either directly or indirectly. Guilt about sexual activity or past sexual trauma can lead to ED.

7. Low self-esteem

Low self-esteem can lead to ED either directly or indirectly. Low self-esteem can make it difficult to get or keep an erection.

8. Fear of failure
