Pelosi delivers impassioned speech as Roe v Wade overturned

In an impassioned speech on the House floor, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) denounced the recent wave of state laws banning abortion, arguing that they are a direct attack on Roe v. Wade.

“This is a war on women, plain and simple,” Pelosi said. “These laws are a direct attack on Roe v. Wade, and on the fundamental right of every woman to make her own health care decisions.”

Pelosi noted that the states that have passed these laws – Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Ohio – are all led by Republican governors. She accused the GOP of “playing politics with women’s health care” and warned that these laws could have devastating consequences for women’s health and safety.

“Make no mistake: these laws are dangerous,” Pelosi said. “They will harm women’s health. They will endanger women’s lives. And they will violate women’s constitutional rights.”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi gave an impassioned speech as Roe V Wade was overturned, marking an end to 50 years of abortion law in America.

The US Supreme Court ended constitutional protections for abortion care, dealing a blow to women’s rights.

Five conservative justices ruled in favour of a Mississippi law that outlaws abortion at 15 weeks of pregnancy, in a major reversal of legislation in America.
